We have recently returned from a wonderful trip to South Africa with Ronnie and Dee. They are amazing hosts and we would highly recommend them. They promised us that everything would be taken care of and it was. This was our 4th trip to South Africa but it was definitely the best. We had visited some of the places before, but they showed us new areas and took us to events that were new to us, such as the meerkat morning wake-up in Knysna and the elephant sanctuary, where we got to hand-feed the elephants and have our pictures taken touching them!

We had a small but very compatible group, none of whom we knew before the trip. We all looked after each other and we had lots of laughs and great fun. The accommodations were gorgeous and the food was delicious. We have family in South Africa and, thanks to Ronnie and Dee, we were able to use our free days to go and visit them in their respective cities. They were thrilled that we made the trip and extremely appreciative that we could have visits with them, even if we couldn’t stay as long as they would have liked. We experienced many kinds of African cuisine, with the staff wearing their national costumes; we had lessons on drumming on Bongo drums; heard a wonderful choir singing to us in the dark with candles all around, as a birthday tribute to Ronnie, and so much more.

The game drives were fantastic and we saw all the big five – even had a leopard saunter right past our safari vehicle as all sat very still. Also had a hippo come out of the water and walk right in front of us, completely ignoring us, thank goodness. All in all it was the trip of a lifetime and if you are thinking about making such a trip, my advice would be “Go for it. You will never regret it!” There were a few tears shed when we said our goodbyes at the O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, but we know we have new life-long friends and hope we will be able to see them again soon.

Totsiens!
